History of the Master’s Program in Guidance and Counseling
The Master’s Program in Guidance and Counseling at Yogyakarta State University was established in response to the growing demand for guidance and counseling services in the modern era. Rapid social and technological changes, along with increasing awareness of the importance of mental health, have necessitated the availability of competent professionals in this field.
The program was proposed by the Rector of Yogyakarta State University to the Directorate General of Higher Education on April 26, 2005, and subsequently received official authorization through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 075/P/2014, dated March 5, 2014. Based on this decree, Yogyakarta State University began offering the Master’s Program in Guidance and Counseling in 2014 under the auspices of the Graduate School (PPs) of the university.
In line with institutional strengthening and academic development, the management of the program was officially transferred to the Faculty of Education (FIP) of Yogyakarta State University in 2019. This transition marked a strategic step toward enhancing disciplinary integration and professional excellence in the fields of education and counseling within the faculty.
As part of Yogyakarta State University’s commitment to producing experts and professional educators, the Master’s Program in Guidance and Counseling continues to strive to produce graduates with strong competencies, integrity, and the capacity to make meaningful contributions to the improvement of guidance and counseling services in Indonesia.
